First up this week, Indra has signed a contract with DFS, Germany’s air navigation service provider, to modernize the country’s entire network of air surveillance radars with state-of-the-art technology. The project, with an execution period of 13 years, has an amount over 100 million euros, which would be extended depending on the release of the different options envisaged. The company won out over the other top manufacturers in the market in an open competition, thanks to the best technically rated and most competitive proposal.
Next, the construction of the New Manila International Airport in Bulacan, some 35 kilometers north of Metro Manila, is in full swing, with Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Jaime Bautista leading the inspection. Bautista assured stakeholders of the new international airport that the gateway will soon be open for business. Operations at the new gateway are targeted to start in 2027.
In other news, Empresa Argentina de Navegacion Aerea (EANA) and Frequentis have concluded the installation of the Frequentis voice communication systems (VCS) and DIVOS recording systems for all Argentinian flight information regions at five aera control centers – Ezeiza, Comodoro Rivadavia, Mendoza, Resistencia, and Cordoba. “By installing the Frequentis VCS 3020X and DIVOS products at all ACCs in Argentina, we are able to enhance the airspace communications and support EANA’s critical mission to deliver air navigation services in Argentinian airspace in a safe, efficient, and sustainable manner”, says Hannu Juurakko, Frequentis Vice President ATM and Chairman of the ATM Executive Team.
Finally, NAV CANADA has announced its plans to construct a new air traffic control tower at the Victoria International Airport (YYJ). Construction of the new tower will begin in the spring of 2023 and is expected to be completed by 2026, replacing the existing tower at the Victoria airport. The new energy efficient LEED certified tower will include a control cab with a 360-degree view of the airport and have the most modern air traffic management, communications, and aviation surveillance systems to ensure safety of operations.
